Following her debut exhibition at Culture House, Mehaira Abdelhamid joins forces with Rayan Elnayal and Yassmin Abdel-Magied on a panel to discuss the beauty of cultural influences and how art is inspired by it. The purpose of this panel discussion is to understand how culture influences artforms, and how it can be used as a tool for empowerment, advocacy and a fight for justice.

The Banãt Al-Nil Panelists Include
Mehaira Abdelhamid – British Sudanese portrait and fashion photographer whose work blends culture and fashion to highlight underrepresented identities. Drawing on her experience as a young Black hijabi, she creates imagery that challenges norms while celebrating diverse forms of beauty.
Rayan Elnayal – Artist, designer, and educator who uses her research and architectural background to create speculative, future-focused spaces rooted in Sudanese culture and resistant to Euro-centric design norms. She is the co-founder and director of Space Black and has taught, lectured, and critiqued across multiple architecture and design programs.
Yassmin Abdel-Magied – Sudanese diaspora writer, broadcaster, and award-winning social advocate, author of several books including Talking About a Revolution (2022) and debut novel At Sea (2026), with work featured in publications such as The Guardian and The New Arab on issues including the Sudanese Revolution. She founded Youth Without Borders at 16, is a globally sought-after speaker and advisor on social justice, created eyesonsudan.net, and supports sudandigitalarchive.com. Her TED talk ranks among the platform’s top ten ideas.
