The durbaan is made from cow hide wrapped around a wooden frame. It is the most used Somali instrument and accompanies gabaay (somali oral poetry) and hand clapping that others will sing along and dance to. Sometimes referred to as Reeme – reem is a type of sound, reeme translates to object that gives that sound.
