Poetry Club

A key part of Somali history is poetry and spoken word as stories were passed down orally for hundreds of years. At Culture House we want to support anyone interested in taking part in the art of poetry. Using our dedicated learning space, we are running poetry workshops divided into several cohorts throughout the year. We want as many people to get involved as possible, with each new cohort experiencing a fresh take on poetry, as the themes and poetry facilitators leading the sessions rotate. Whether you are a first-time poet or have attended poetry workshops before, all are welcome to join our poetry workshops.

We are currently taking applications for our first cohort of workshops being delivered by the talented Nomadic Libaax. Sessions are running from 23rd of April to 7th May 2025 and are in demand. The theme being covered is Identity and across 3 workshops you will build your confidence, develop understanding of poetic techniques and create a unique piece to perform at a future scratch night on the 16th May. If you would like to be a part of the sessions, please register below to avoid disappointment. We aim to get back to you promptly.
